Ebook About "What would you do to save a dog?Night delivers a litter of eight puppies in a poor neighborhood in Springfield, Tennesseethe week before Melissa Armstrong first meets her. As a volunteer for a local nonprofit, Melissa has experience with strays and plans to rescue Night and her litter within days. But nothing goes as planned. For the next six months, Melissa and a ragtag cast of characters try to trap the mutt with nets, catchpoles, spring traps, cheeseburgers, hot dogs stuffed with Benadryl, and the dog’s crying puppies. They fail so many times that Melissa is on the brink of giving up. But when she learns about the brutal way the local police department controls the overpopulation problem in Night’s neighborhood, she reaffirms her promise to a dog. She vows to rescue her, no matter the consequences.Catching Dawn is a beautifully written story of how Night became Dawn, and of the other dogs who have brought joy and heartbreak, moments of transcendence and despair, and unconditional love to the author’s life. Catching Dawn is also a vividly told and thoughtful reflection on the many highs and lows of caring for animals and humans in difficult circumstances; a gritty exposé of the consequences of animal overpopulation in the rural South; and the story of how a homeless dog helps a woman move through personal grief and upheaval to rediscover the meaning of family."Book Catching Dawn: A Search for a Dog and the Discovery of Family Review :
I usually struggle to write a review, to the point where I don’t even bother most times. With this book, I have rewritten this review in my head so many times, before even finishing it. This book has resonated with me so much I literally wanted to climb inside and live there. The story is basically about the healing power dogs have over us. Really. Depression is a serious mental illness, and the author pulls no punches about her struggle with it. An unfortunate, understandable struggle. She had a difficult childhood and depression was the result. But dogs have been a huge part of her medicine. But, in return for what they gave her, this story is about what she gave back to them ten-fold. This book isn’t just about Melissa. It’s about all the humans and dogs she chooses to surround herself with, and I promise, you will love them all.People always ask “Does the dog die?” when they know the book is about dogs. Then refuse to read it if they know the dog does indeed die. Unfortunately, the reality is, dogs die. That is not the point. The point is what they give us when they are alive. Yes, they break our hearts when they die, but would we ever trade not having had them in the first place, in order to not feel the pain? I will answer for you, and the answer is no. Yes, dogs die in this book. Dogs die and you will cry. You will cry for the loss. You will cry for all of the emotions this book brings you. And it will bring so many emotions, only one of which is sadness. The dogs are heroes for what they give to the humans in this book. But the humans are heroes too. They give everything for these dogs.I’ve read a lot of books about dogs, but this s one that resonates the most for me. It’s a must-read for dog lovers.Sorry for the dissertation. I know it’s more than a review, but in my opinion, this book is worth it. The book “Catching Dawn” by Melissa Armstrong is an emotional story of the hardships and rewards of rescuing dogs, and the unconditional love from the dogs who have been rescued. The story describes the difficult job of catching a streetwise, stray dog named Dawn, along with other rescues of abandoned dogs. As the book unfolds you understand how big the hearts are of the author, her husband and the many other people featured in the book. The author paints such vivid images that you can easily picture the nature scenes, the smells and the personalities of the dogs.Sometimes funny, sometimes sad but always heartwarming and uplifting, this book is a joy to read.
